COUNTY OF CRAVEN: Delinquent Tax Notices Mailed

Notice

County of Craven issued the following announcement on Jan. 26.

The Craven County Tax Administrator mailed approximately 20,372 Delinquent Tax Notices to residents on January 20, 2022.  Of those notices, 8,206 of them were Vehicle Registration Gap Property Tax Notices for residents who had gaps in vehicle registration between July 1, 2017 and August 17, 2021.

The Gap Property Tax Notice is a property tax bill that covers the months between the expiration of a vehicle's registration and the renewal of that registration or the issuance of a new registration.  Craven County is required by North Carolina General Statute 105-330.3(2) to collect property taxes for vehicles with an unregistered status.  This requirement has been in place since July 1, 2017 and an upgrade to Craven County's billing software back in early 2021 allowed compliance with this billing requirement.  The first Gap Property Tax Notices were mailed in April 2021 and are now mailed monthly.

For more information, visit the Craven County website at www.cravencountync.gov and go to Quicklinks for Vehicle Registration Gap Property Tax Notice information, the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) or call the Craven County Tax Office at 252-636-6604 if you have questions regarding this information.
